There might not be any Galaxy S6 Edge variant with a curved screen

We recently published exclusive info on the Galaxy S6, Samsung’s next big flagship smartphone that will launch sometime early next year. We had received inside info that the Galaxy S6 would also have a curved screen variant called the Galaxy S6 Edge, but we’ve now received updated details from one of our insiders that suggests there might not be an Edge variant of the S6 after all. Apparently, there’s still a separate variant of the Galaxy S6 in the works, but at the moment, the prototype device doesn’t have an Edge screen. That leaves us to speculate on what this Galaxy S6 variant will have as a defining feature – maybe an Edge screen will be implemented later on, or it could have some other new feature that puts it in a league of its own. Samsung’s Project Zero initiative to make the Galaxy S6 an amazing device leaves open many possibilities; maybe the non-standard variant will be a device with on-screen buttons or something similar, though at this point it’s too early to say what Samsung has in mind.

Samsung Galaxy Ace explodes next to Ontario University student

Smartphones exploding isn’t exactly a frequent occurrence, but when something like this does happen, it manages to become a hotly debated topic across the internet. However, it seems one case of a Samsung phone exploding might have gone unnoticed since October. A CBC News report has revealed that a Galaxy Ace exploded next to Hope Casserly - an Ontario University student - while she was sleeping, an incident that was only reported on Monday this week. The phone was not charging and was simply resting still on the girl’s bedside; the battery exploded and caused her bed to catch fire, but she thankfully managed to put it out with her pillow.
Samsung has reportedly replaced the device for her and has sent the damaged device back to South Korea for investigation. Casserly is also asking Samsung to pay for damaged bedding and mattress, which together cost over CAD 1,000, and it’s like the Korean manufacturer will oblige with that demand given the severity of the whole incident.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha is the first device to feature Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4

Today, Corning has announced that the Galaxy Alpha is the first mobile device to use the new Gorilla Glass 4 to protect its 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display. The fourth iteration of Gorilla Glass is just 0.4mm thin, which helped Samsung in making the Galaxy Alpha just 6.7mm thin. Corning has claimed in its official blogpost that it is their toughest protection glass yet, making it more damage-resistant to frequent drops and protects the screen from scratches and bumps. When Samsung announced the Galaxy Alpha in August, it didn’t mention the presence of the Gorilla Glass 4, because Corning wasn’t ready for official announcement. It appears that even the Galaxy Note 4 uses Gorilla Glass 4 but it hasn’t been confirmed by Corning yet.
Cliff Hund, General Manager and President of Corning East Asia, said, “Corning spends a great deal of time collaborating with Samsung to recommend solutions that will continually improve their device design and performance. Device makers want to go thinner without sacrificing damage resistance. Samsung is not only meeting these requirements, but is on the cutting edge of smartphone design. The Galaxy ALPHA is the culmination of our close collaboration with Samsung.
